Working with monoprints for most of her career as a fine artist has helped inform Lynn Heitler’s approach to creating the original artwork that makes up much of the extensive LYNNEL Art to Form portfolio.
“My many years of experience in several types of printmaking taught me so much about the layers I use in my digital artworks now,” says LYNNEL artist and co-founder, Lynn Heitler. “But, layering digitally provides a great deal of aesthetic freedom for the artist. The mechanics of the digital process allow for instantaneous experimentation and editing of the work. All this is very fulfilling to me as an artist.”
The creative process employed by Lynn Heitler has much more potential than producing traditional prints on paper. Digital layering allows an artist to color manage images in ways that cannot be accomplished nearly as easily with paper and a press. Also, digital production allows an artist to print on a myriad of substrates – and at a much larger scale.
However, both monoprints and digital prints demand an aesthetic vision, with a keen ability to understand and anticipate how one layer will impact the next. “The layering process is highly intuitive and artistic, and is informed by years of experience,” says Heitler.
In addition, one of the consistent experiences for Lynn Heitler has been collaboration. She has worked with master printers across the country who have educated her about a number or processes, as well as highly skilled experts in the digital world. These collaborations are quite different than working on one of a kind oil paintings in her studio. In Lynn’s words, “I have found all my collaborations over the years to be quite productive – and very rewarding.”
As we all know, an artist’s style develops and changes over time. And, current work is usually informed by all the past steps along the way. Heitler’s expertise and success in creating dynamic, layered monoprints over many years have helped her develop the unique and diverse portfolio of original artwork and photography used in LYNNEL’s varied art installations. When viewed carefully, one can discern the long, rich experience of Lynn Heitler’s printmaking past in the artwork LYNNEL offers today.
